The Curious Builder Construction Podcast Hits 100K Plays!
Three years ago, I never imagined I’d be here—celebrating 100,000 plays of The Curious Builder Podcast. Back in August 2022, I was a guest on Brad Levitt’s podcast. Thirty days later, I took the leap and launched my own. Now, just in time for our three-year anniversary, we’ve hit a milestone that feels surreal!
But even if no one listened, I’d still do it for the incredible conversations and connections I’ve made. This podcast has had a huge impact on me and the fact that it resonates with so many of you is just the cherry on top!
Proud Moments Along the Way
There have been plenty of learning curves (and a few mistakes) along the way, but each step has been worth it.
Starting with in-person interviews early on was a game-change helping me hone both my leadership skills and the craft of hosting. As was switching from bi-weekly to weekly episodes. Over the years, we’ve had everything from local conversations to national guests, and I’ve loved every one!
Adding the Thursday Q&A series gave things another boost. They helped me improve my public speaking and practice sharing thoughts and actionable insights in a monologue format. It’s different from my interview style, but it’s helped me grow, connect with listeners in a new way, and answer your construction industry questions directly.
And the live podcasts—especially all the real-world insights at Build Buzz and the Contractor Coalition—hold a special place in my heart. Many of my other ventures, like Sauna Camp, Boot Camp, and The Collectives, all started from seeds planted through the podcast and the growth mindset we all embrace together!
It’s hard to take in all the ideas, successful projects, events, and relationships that have come from one decision.
Favorite Episodes & Guests
It’s impossible to pick just one, but a few moments stand out. Episode 18 with Jackson Schwartz of Hennepin Made was our very first live podcast, and his storytelling left a lasting mark. I even changed my company’s vacation policy because of his leadership insights.
Another unforgettable one was episode 46 with my dad. It’s an episode I’ll always treasure—and someday I hope my kids will be able to listen back to it.
If You’re Thinking of Starting a Construction Podcast
Just start! Be yourself. Don’t try to be a carbon copy of another show—find your voice. You have something unique to add to the conversation- find out what it is and focus on that first!
I knew from day one that I didn’t want to do my own editing, so I found sponsors early on to make it sustainable. It was a risk, but it helped us grow faster. There’s no one-size-fits-all blueprint—just do what works for you!
Need help landing brand deals that make sense for you? This blog has all the details!
What’s Next?
We’ll keep innovating. Weekly shows on Mondays and Thursdays are here to stay, but I’d love to add more live events—there’s one planned for Q4 in Minnesota!
With the Mysa Hus spec home, I’ll even be recording episodes in the house, maybe with a live audience. It’s a chance to highlight the incredible brands we work with in a whole new way and the custom homes we create together.
A Big Thank You to Our Sponsors
Pella and Adaptive have been with me since day one, and their continued support means the world. River City Tile & Stone and Alpine Hardwood have also been amazing partners, along with local supporter Lake Society Magazine. Every one of you believed in the vision early, and I’m deeply grateful.
To everyone who has tuned in, shared an episode, or told me you listen—thank you. You’ve helped The Curious Builder Podcast become one of the construction podcasts I’m proud to say connects and inspires our industry. Here’s to the next 100K plays!
